With summer being only a few weeks away, most of us start making plans on how to take advantage of it. A question that comes to my mind often these days is “how to spend it in the most memorable way?” I am sure I’m far from being the only one who is tired of being away from my friends and family members for months now. We all spent way too much time compelled at home last year in Montreal. So when things finally seem to be going back to normal again, it’s natural that we want to spend as much time as possible outdoors.
It’s good to see that the weather is on our side this year in Montreal. Warm days we’ve being having since March gave us plenty of opportunities for evening strolls, park visits, and of course, picnics! Most people I know like picnics. Do you? I know I do! Have you considered having a picnic photo session this summer in Montreal?
I have prepared 5 useful tips to ensure that your summer picnic session is nothing less than perfect:
1. Find a perfect picnic spot
Remember that location is everything. Your location will set the tone to your entire photoshoot. So, choose it wisely. Out of all the beautiful places that Montreal and the surrounding offer, choose the one that appeals most to YOU – whether it is in the park, on the beach, in the forest or in an urban setting.
The place should best represent how you feel, dress and how you want to be portrayed.
2. Choose a golden hour for your picnic photo session
Golden hour is known for its soft and warm lighting. It would literally light your images with a golden sunset colour. My rule is to never underestimate the power of the golden light in photography. That is why I would strongly suggest that you have your picnic session around the time that the sun sets in Montreal.
3. Coordinate your clothings
Do not dress everyone in the same outfit. Your clothes should reflect your personality, so wear the clothes what reveal your character.
Start by picking one main colour for your family outfits and two accent colours. All three colours should be in the same colour palette. Incorporate different shades of these colours into everyone’s outfits.
Check this post on what to wear for a summer photo session.
4. Use picnic props for your picnic photo session this summer in Montreal
Details play an important part in photography. They help telling your story by enhancing your pictures and making them look more interesting. I suggest that you include a wood platter, picnic basket, food, drinks, and a picnic blanket in your setup.
5. Have fun and feel the moment
A picnic photo session is not only about eating or taking photos. It’s about portraying you and how you feel in this moment and in this place. This is your moment to shine, to be humble, to be you!
Remember that it’s this moment that you will want to remember for years to come. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s your history, and it’s a part of your journey.
